Standard Specifications for Performance Verifivation of Hybrid Structures in JAPAN
The Committee on Hybrid Structures of Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE) published "Standard Specifications for Hybrid Structures" on December 2009. We believe that the Specifications are the world's first publication, which introduce the performance-based concept explicitly. The Specifications might contribute to official organizations with no Original Codes as their Model Codes. Moreover, the Specifications are useful for engineers to plan, design and construct Hybrid Structures.
The Specifications consist of three Parts: namely "General Principals", "Composite Members" and "Connections for Different Members with Different Materials", with related documents as Appendix. The Specifications covers a wide range of Hybrid Structures. "Composite Members" include steel-concrete composite beam, steel-concrete composite slab, steel-concrete sandwich slab, steel reinforced concrete column (SRC Column) and concrete filled tubular steel column (CFT column). Further, "Connections for Different Members with Different Materials" include various types of connections: for instance between steel girders and concrete piers, between steel girders and concrete girders, and between CFT column and concrete foundation.
The oral presentation features the following topics from the Specifications.
1. Which performances are required for Hybrid Structures? How are performances verified?
2. Applicable procedures to verification by advanced analyses, such as the finite element method
3. Latest research results for various shear connectors
4. Significance of structural planning in consideration of Life Cycle Management
