Monitoring blast effects on historical buildings

In an earlier paper (“Blast Vibration Effects on Historical Buildings” (with D. Sutcliffe and J. Mullard), ASEC 2008), the author described the qualitative effects of blast vibration on historical buildings and the modelling and synthesising of those effects on a particular building.
Monitoring of historical structures has been extended to the direct measurement of the dynamic effects, including frequency analysis, of blast vibration on buildings and building elements and the correlation of those measurements with the structural parameters and behaviour of the building elements. The results allow a better appreciation of the vibration risks, lead to more accurate setting of blast limits and can have implications for blast design.
